What the volunteer program package includes

GAPS volunteer programs are designed to be an ‘all inclusive’ package. We pride ourselves on caring for you from the moment you touch down in Africa until you have safely returned home. Unlike other organisations, we won’t just drop you off at your volunteer site never to be seen again. We also organise numerous additional optional trips and excursions so that you get the most out of your time in Africa and have ample opportunities to get to know other GAPS volunteers.

The standard GAPS program includes the following:

  • pre-departure briefing and orientation session (held in Melbourne)

  • pickup and drop-off at the airport upon arrival and departure

  • 3 day orientation program including:

    • cultural workshop

    • health and safety workshop

    • language workshop

    • visit to Langa’ta Giraffe Centre

    • Nairobi city tour

    • meals and accommodation

  • 3 week volunteer placement at institution of your choice1

  • all meals and accommodation throughout volunteer placement (accommodation may be with either host family or at the host institution)

  • celebratory dinner at conclusion of program in premium restaurant

  • 24 hour emergency assistance in the UK, Australia and Kenya

GAPS is also able to arrange flights for volunteers at very competitive rates. This enables participants to travel to Kenya and Rwanda together as a group ensuring friends have been made even before arriving in Africa. Note that if you wish for GAPS to arrange your flights full payments must be received 8 weeks prior to departure.

1There are times when the placement of your choice may not be available due to capacity constraints or reasons beyond our control. In such circumstances GAPS will do its best to find you an equivalent placement at an alternative institution.
