Mauryne Cerebral Palsy Centre

Location: Ngong, Kenya

Suitable for: anyone; those with a background in nursing, occupational therapy, experience working with disabled children.

Date constraints: nil

Mauryne Cerebral Palsy Centre was recently established to help rehabilitate children suffering from Cerebral Palsy. The centre cares for around 20 children who generally live in the nearby slums. Volunteers at the centre will be able to assist the centre’s nurse with the rehabilitative exercises conducted with the children, help feed the children, assist with the administration of the Centre and conduct visits to local communities to help change perceptions and prejudices against Cerebral Palsy sufferers.

The Centre is chronically under-resourced so the presence of volunteers has a dramatic impact on the quality of life and speed of rehabilitation of the children.

GAPS has been involved with Mauryne Cerebral Palsy Centre since soon after its inception. GAPS also hopes to fundraise to allow the centre to take in more children and increase the level of care provided to patients.
