Volunteering with a local non government organisation: Assist Rwanda
Location: Kigali (with field visits around Rwanda)
Suitable for: anyone. This organization is of particular interest to those wanting volunteer experience in microfinance, cottage industries and grassroots income generating activities. It also provides general opportunities

Assist Rwanda is a non profit organization that works to improve the situation of the most disadvantaged youth in Rwanda particular the 200,000 child headed households. With several options available volunteering with Assist Rwanda will open volunteers up to new experiences and new understandings of how their counterparts live across the other side of the world. This program will see you living amongst the local community in Kigali and working with the youth towards improving their lives. Assist Rwanda focuses on six main pillars, all of which are open to volunteers:
The Nyagatare Youth Employment and Children Sharing Centre: Current opportunities involve working on the construction of the Centre, setting up a functional library as well as developing curriculum for classroom and vocational training
Cottage Industries: Working with Assist Rwanda’s cottage industries in goat rearing, soap and candle making and car wash and cleaning service
Peacebuilding and Human rights: Working on human rights training and advocacy
Education and training support: Teaching local communities about AIDS prevention and basic health.
Microfinance: Work with Assist Rwanda’s Microfinance Centres as well as teaching local communities about Microfinance.
Project development and administration: Create new ideas and ways for the youth establish income generating activities.
Volunteering with Assist Rwanda has a large impact of the youth by bringing new ideas to the table together to create new and effective ways to establish income generating activities as well as providing support on current activities. Furthermore teaching the community about HIV prevention, microfinance or Human Rights empowers the youth and provides them with more opportunities to live a fulfilling life.
